SuperSport in 7-goal rout

SuperSport United beat Maritzburg United by huge seven goal margin

Posted: 14 October 2011 Time: 9:47 pm

Maritzburg United's unbeaten run was brought to a decisive end tonight, by seven goals from SuperSport United.

SuperSport United are now the only team left unbeaten in the League this season, and are top of the log on 18 points. They will remain top regardless of second-placed Mamelodi Sundowns' result tomorrow.

SuperSport have also not lost to Maritzburg since their first meeting in 2005/06.

Matsatsantsa's goals were scored by Atusaye Nyondo, Byron Hendricks own-goal, Tebogo Langerman (brace), Jabulani Maluleke (brace) and Ashley Hartog.

Nyondo took his tally for the season to five, to become joint top-scorer with Katlego Mphela, slamming home in the 10th minute.

An Anthony Laffor cross resulted in Hendricks' own-goal on 27 minutes.

Midfielder Tebogo Langerman completed the third in a clinical first-half display after good work from Nyondo in the 43rd minute, to take a 3-0 half-time lead.

Botswana international Gabonamong went on to net the fourth for the Tshwane side in the 71st minute.

A late brace from pacy substitute midfielder Jabu Maluleke in the 76th and 81st minutes, and a 86th-minute goal from Ashley Hartog ensured the emphatic result.

Maritzburg were not given time to settle, as SuperSport's offensive trio of Nyondo, Laffor and Hartog put coach Ian Palmer's charges on the back foot.

Outside of Hendricks' header that came off the post midway, SuperSport's young goalkeeper Ronwen Williams went untested in the first-half as Shu-Aib Walters' goal was continuously under threat.

I hope the scoreline does not affect the morale of Palmer's boys otherwise their impressive start to the season will be deemed nothing less than a fluke.

Sorry Maritzburg, it is embarrassing to loose a game like that, I wouldn't wish it on any local coach. Congrats SSU.

Ian Palmer don't worry about the results, instill the confidence back on the players, forget about this game its history now. Focus on the next one. All the best for the future.

im Bucs Supporter but i think SS is taking the League considering our poor scoring problem, SS just made it clear today that they want the league if Bucs front line still have this deases of not scoring, then we just have to forget about league.

i saw this coming since everyone was praising Ian Palmer saying that is good because he has beaten Bucs and forgetting that Maritzburg was favoured by the refree. He still lack the necessary experience to be a coach and he is next to be chase away. Sharpa Matsatsa shapa.

I like this, while Mr Money mines is building the 'SUNCLOWNS' to be best jokers in African football, (I mean they got 'SUPRISE' best defensive midfielder in Sundowns) by doing unrelated football things, neighbhors SuperSport are marching to another title. Did Mr Napkins ever hear about concept playing a players according to their strength

I saw this coming a long time ago, when musona said he believed chiefs would win the league i said he would never admit that United had the stongest overall team.

But Pirates has the most talented team in the Pls n when they eventually find their feet kuzokhalwa. Football 101 was mastered at the University of Orlando.

This is one team knows how to win the league by fundamentally scoring goals. They know goals will come in handy for them come the time of goal difference and they make sure that when their opponent have their back against the wall they punish them unlike teams like mine who will be huffing and puffing in front of goals...they will even go to an extent of keeping the ball too long, like Mayambela.

But I am not scared of SSU because I have full respect to my team and I know they will do like last year by picking up at the right time. Ke month ntsho ka tsalo (I am black by nature).
