Ajax Cape Town come from behind for a draw with Jomo Cosmos at Cape Town Stadium

Posted: 14 October 2011 Time: 21:59

Ajax Cape Town were unable to overcome a stubborn Jomo Cosmos at the Cape Town Stadium on Friday night, having to settle for a 1-1 draw.

The Cape side started the game enjoying the lion’s share of ball possession, but were put on the back foot in the 14th minute when Siyabonga Nhlapo made the most of some sloppy defending to surge into the box and put the ball past debutant Sander Westerveld.

With Cosmos defending with authority and determination, Ajax struggled to create opportunities despite having most of the play.

In the 35th minute they were denied an equaliser when Terror Fanteni struck the bar from 20-yards out.

The first chance of the second half fell to Cosmos, but Bamuza Sono shot tamely with only Westerveld to beat from 16-yards.

Fanteni put the Cape side back on level terms in the 56th minute when he scored on the rebound after Lebohang Manyama had hit the upright.

Avril Phali did superbly to keep Cosmos in the game 16 minutes later when he flung himself through the air to palm away Khama Billiat’s volley.

Ajax pushed hard for a late winner, but struggled to create any decent chances, while the visiting team looked dangerous on the counter on a couple of occasions.

@Tinyiko,
Man your observation is pin point accurate! Good analysis there. Currently we are using Tukane to win the balls in the middle of the park and I do not think that roles suits Tukane. I see him as an attacking midfielder. We need a defensive play maker nad push Tukane behind the strikers.

Cosmos will not be relegated this season.!!!

A draw in the rain is better than a lose. Ajax need to make up ground to challenge for league this season.

@Givo,
Did you watch the game? what's your review of the game? Which team was playing at home? Pity.

I'm happy with a draw, the team is improving and getting more confident.

In Tukane,we have our own Serero. What we need now is a player like Clifford Ngobeni to stabilize our middlefield or even Papi Zothwane.What do other Cosmos supporters think?
