Pelembe nets late, late goal for Brazilians

Elias Pelembe scored in the dying seconds for Mamelodi Sundowns as they defeated Bloemfontein Celtic 2-1 in their Absa Premiership clash at Loftus Stadium on Tuesday night.

It was heart-breaking for Celtic, who had chances of their own to win the game, but in the end goals from Nyasha Mushekwi and Pelembe sealed their fate. Eric Mathoho had given Celtic a first-half lead.

The win moves Downs top of the table, for 24 hours at least, ahead of Tshwane rivals SuperSport United on goals scored.

Sundowns had much of the play in the first half but it was Celtic who went into the break in front.

Eric Mathoho headed home a Thokozani Mshengu free-kick on 26 minutes with the Sundowns defence at sixes and sevens.

Before that Katlego Mphela might have put his side in the lead as he was fed by Musa Nyatama, but he put his shot across goal.

Mushekwi had the first of a number of golden opportunities to score when he found himself one-on-one with Patrick Tignyemb, but the Cameroon stopper saved his point-blank effort.

The Zimbabwean striker then missed two great heading opportunities, failing to hit the target with either.

Mshengu was lucky to stay on the pitch just before the break when, already on a yellow card, he lashed out at Hlompho Kekena, kicking the former Celtic man on the shin, but got only a talking to rather than another card.

Sundowns were level on 55 minutes as Mushekwi finally found the back of the net and it was a fine goal too. He brought the ball down on the edge of the area and fired home low past a statuesque Tignyemb.

Mushekwi missed a great chance to give his side the lead as he received the ball eight yards out, but fired over the bar with Tignyemb and the Celtic defence scrambling.

At the other end, Clifford Mulenga found acres of space on the left, but his shot was saved by Wayne Sandilands in the home goal.

And Mulenga went even closer a minute from time as his shot was touched by Sandilands onto the woodwork.

But it was the home side who snatched the points as Pelembe popped up at the back post and with his weaker right foot volleyed the ball past a helpless Tignyemb.

Apologies to Sundawana fans for coming up with unrelated comment especially after collecting maximum points just now ....

Once again apologies for my ignorance

Looks like we gonna be hosting this African Nations Cup again in 2013 ,
Does that means we would automatically qualify because we’re hosting this tournament ?

I'm sorry for been irrelevant to Sundowns fans
