Ajax Cape Town beat Kaizer Chiefs 2-1 at Cape Town Stadium

Ajax Cape Town rode their luck to defeat Kaizer Chiefs 2-1 at Cape Town Stadium on Wednesday night.

Terror Fanteni opened the scoring with a penalty on 20 minutes, after Itumeleng Khune was adjudged to have tripped him.

Reneilwe Letsholonyane equalised in the 48th minute, before Lebongang Manyama got the winner for the Urban Warriors on 75 minutes.

AmaKhosi were bright and breezy early on, putting the Ajax defence under immense pressure.

The hosts were lucky to escape in the 11th minute when Bernard Parker’s stinging drive was pushed by keeper Sean Roberts onto the bar.

However, following some sloppy play at the back, the Urban Warriors earned a 20th minute penalty when Fanteni drew Khune into a foul; Fanteni converting the spot-kick with ease.

Chiefs looked to hit back and were unfortunate to see Lucky Baloyi’s teasing cross failing to pick out a teammate, before Thomas Sweswe sent a volley just wide.

Despite having had the better of the opening half, Chiefs went into the break 1-0 down.

Whatever was said in the dressing-room at half-time worked, as Amakhosi levelled matters just three minutes after the restart, Letsholonyane expertly curling the ball past a helpless Roberts.

The game remained tight, with no more than half chances at either end, until the Urban Warriors regained the lead after 75 minutes when the ball broke nicely for Lebogang Manyama, who showed great cool under pressure to poke home a low shot.

Chiefs rallied hard in the closing stages for an equaliser, but Baloyi lacked the power in his shot to beat Roberts, while Tinashe Nengomasha sent a header just over.

There was more late drama to come however as Lehlohonolo Majoro’s header was touched onto the bar by Roberts, as somehow Ajax hung on.

chiefs' central defence works very hard but they are neither talented nor intelligent...parker's contribution is questionable....

I Think VV has lost the plot, he's all over the place..his player selection, tactical approach resembles a coach who hope for luck & miracle..some players seem not motivated to play for him...K4L

I am glad we lost! Now we need to lose on Saturday so that that clueless coach can be fired while it is still early in the season.

The powers that be at Chiefs made the biggest blunder by giving this moron of a coach a third season with Chiefs.

He doesn't know what coaching is.

He must just pack and go!!

Let me go and sleep a happy man after such a peaceful night. I so wish we have this atmosphere everyday...how I wish all the teams in the PSL, except the mighty OPFC, were Ajax CT. This team is like Hlaselamafutha/Hlaselamafele/Cockroach fighter because I don't see cockroaches around and it is so silent and peaceful.

Well played Zebras. You ran out of luck better luck next time, however your team has a serious problem. The following players: Dladla and Majoro what did they do wrong not to deserve to be in the starting lineup? just because you lost against PIRATES?

Your coach is unprofessional, why was he shouting at Ngcobo? Changing the team around everytime you loose a game does not help the players' morale and confidence. Anyway i enjoy seeing you loose but please dont be relegated.

When is this clown coach going to learn that his Central defence pairing is weak?He changes all depts but not the weakest one. I also hope we lose on Sat so that he can be fired. I hope they don't hire Krol to replace him.Remember what happened the last time we hired a coach who was successful at Pirates: Geoff Hudson was a disaster.

Let Farouk Khan and Ace Khuse coach the tea.
