Jomo Cosmos and AmaZulu played to a goalless draw in their League match at the Sinaba Stadium in Benoni on Tuesday night.
Playing at home, Cosmos were hoping to pick up their first points of the season, but they suffered an early setback when Buti Khoza was forced off injured to be replaced by Abisai Shimimgay.
Following the early disruption, Cosmos seemed to adjust quite quickly and controlled the majority of the possession in the first 45 minutes, but struggled to create any scoring chances, having only one shot on goal in the dying minutes of the half.
For AmaZulu, even though they were not seeing much of the ball, they pestered the Cosmos goal with long-range shots, but with very little effect.
Donovan Thompson was the first player to have a shot on goal, but it was a poor one as his 22-yard effort sailed well wide of the target in the 11th minute.
Ayanda Dlamini’s shooting though, was much more accurate as he pulled the best out of Shimimgay in the 20th minute. The AmaZulu striker fired a powerful 20-yard shot goalwards, but saw his effort superbly saved by the Cosmos keeper diving low to his left.
Seven minutes later and Dlamini was in the thick of the action again, but this time his shooting let him down as his 30-yard pile-driver skimmed the wrong side of the upright.
The second half was not nearly as exciting as the first stanza as both teams were unable to create chances in front of goal. Instead, both sides squandered possession with poor passing and some wayward long-range shooting.
This made for a dull and dreary half as the game petered out into a 0-0 draw.
