Free State Stars beat SuperSport United in the Nedbank Cup

Posted: 9 April 2011 Time: 18:55

SuperSport United’s disappointing season continued on Saturday when they lost 1-0 to Free State Stars in a Nedbank Cup Last 16 match at Goble Park.

In a match that went to extra-time, Ea Lla Koto sealed victory thanks to a 93rd-minute strike from Boitumelo Sekgobela.

Sekgobela could have given Free State Stars the lead as early as the first minute, but the attacker shot wide with Rowen Fernandez at his mercy.

SuperSport did everything in their power to get an opener and at some stages camped in the opponent’s half, but Kennedy Mweene was on numerous occasions called in to stop the music.

After the break, Stars might have thought they had finally taken the lead, but Aleni Lebyane was adjudged to have fouled Davies Nkausu before connecting with Mpho Makola’s corner and the goal was disallowed.

Mweene did well to stop Anthony Laffor’s goal-bound shot in the 53rd minute before denying Dipsy Selolwane in the 56th and 64th minutes.

At that stage of the game SuperSport were beginning to come back into it, but to no avail.

But when their chance came during extra-time, Stars made no mistake and they went one up in the 93rd minute after Nkausu failed to clear a long ball from Mweene and Sekgobela pounced before beating Fernandez with a fine header to seal the game for his team.

Gavin must start building a formidable side for next season,, and get young players, this idea of buying old players wont help the team as the season gets going! he must also let Anthony Laffor go, his heart is at the diamonds club, he is tired of being payed in rands, he wants precious stones!

SWONA my brother why are you so worried about CHIEFS.

Mmmmm, very good question. By now some teams are already shivering as they know that when the Amakhosi is in a Cup, no one is guaranteed that Cup, but themselves. What did Arendse or De Sa said, only Kaizer Chiefs can beat Kaizer Chiefs when it comes to cup games...hehehe. Khosi4lyf!
