Ajax Cape Town remained top of the Absa Premier League with a goalless draw against Free State Stars at Athlone Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

The Urban Warriors attacked from the offset and almost went ahead in the 19th minute when Bryce Moon’s free-kick hit the crossbar, with Ea Lla Koto’s goalkeeper Kennedy Mweene well beaten.

Bafana Bafana striker Thembinkosi Fanteni hit the post midway through the first half following a good solo run into the area.

The score remained 0-0 at the break.

The second half produced little to entertain the sparse crowd, with Eduardo Ferreira and Eyong Enoh both sending long range efforts over the Free State Stars goal.

Stars wasted a glorious opportunity to seal the points when they were awarded a penalty in the 80th minute after Dominic Isaacs fouled Moses Mbuyane inside the area, but Sifiso Vilakazi saw his spot-kick saved by home goalkeeper Andre Petim.
