Stars, Wits end goalless

Platinum Stars and BidVest Wits played to a goalless draw in an Absa Premier League fixture in Mafikeng on Sunday afternoon.
There was a slow start to the game, with both sides adopting a cautious approach, but it was the hosts who threatened first in the 19th minute when Dingane Masanabo saw his shot cleared off the line by Nhlanhla Kubeka.
The Students first chance of the game arrived in the 25th minute when striker Marcos De Jesus saw his shot superbly saved by Stars’ keeper Wayne Sandilands.
Sandilands was called into action again three minutes later when he denied Almiro Lobo from hitting the back of the net.
Bradley Grobler almost put Stars ahead in the 43rd minute, but BidVest Wits’ keeper Moeneeb Josephs made a good save.
The score remained 0-0 at the break.
The visitors threatened first in the second half when Ashraf Hendricks had an effort saved by Sandilands, while Masanabo saw his shot saved by Josephs five minutes later.
Josephs then produced another good save to hold out George Mofokeng’s header in the 70th minute.
Phil Evans almost stole it for the visitors three minutes from the end, but Sandilands made a superb save to prevent the midfielder’s header from hitting the back of the net
