Mamelodi Sundowns sink Free State Stars

Posted: 10 November 2010 Time: 21:52

Mamelodi Sundowns beat Free State Stars 2-0 in a League match on Wednesday night.

The goals were scored by Matthew Pattison and Mabhudi Khanyeza.

With the Brazilians claiming three points, and closest challengers Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates losing and drawing respectively, it was a perfect evening for ‘Downs supporters as they moved well clear at the head of the standings.

Matty Pattison celebrated his call-up to the national team by slotting the opening goal in the seventh minute. Elias Pelembe whipped in a cross from the flank and the hard-running midfielder turned it home from close range to put his side 1-0 up early on.

The remainder of the first half saw the teams mostly restricted to long range efforts that rarely troubled goalkeepers Wayne Sandilands and Kennedy Mweene. The score was 1-0 in favour of Sundowns at half time.

The status quo remained until the three-quarter mark when Sundowns deservedly doubled their advantage through Mabhuti Khenyeza. The striker took advantage of some slack defending from the visitors to score in the 67th minute and seal the game for the Brazilians.

The remaining minutes saw no further goals or clear scoring opportunities, with Sundowns fairly content to sit on their lead, while Ea Lla Koto seemed to have the stuffing knocked out of them.

If we had 5 comitted playas like Khenyeza Sundowns will cruise easily in every game. Fact is some of our playas are a disgrace unto themselves. Tshilo and Sandilands well done guys. You waited for this opportunity and when you got it grabbed with both hands as opposed to running to newspapers. Vuyo must rot in the stands. I am still angry with this donkey.

Didn't watch the game but i was very glad to see Sandilands in the starting line up, i believe he should be our number 1. glad that Tshilo also got his chance and i hope he took it well.

Its time the coach sticks to one keeper and a stable back 4. i hope Khumalo makes it back to the starting line up because i seriously do not trust Mayinga!

Ka bo yellow..................

Where's Isaac, did you see that beauty?

While some teams see cup competitions as their main target, sundowns continues to see the bigger picture which is the league. i'd love though to win the league as well a little cup on the side.
@ Wonder
I also wanna see Khumalo back at right back. this mayinga does sometimes perform well but not always- we need consistency especially at the back.
I hope booth is next on the stands- i really don't trust that guy at the back anymore. xulu and mngomeni are just fine. they can defend as well as score from set pieces.

Sundowns should consider selling some players, i have hope in our development structures- our shoe shine as piano is dependent on those future stars. i heard that those play very well even better than barcelona and brazil. we have something to be proud off.

Just yesterday, it was announced that young Ngalande from our development has landed a contract with Atletico Madrid, it was also announced that a few players as might be leaving for the same shores as they caught attention of some really big teams the last time they went there.

I think its time we started showing more faith in our development, Xulu, Ngubane and Mkhwanazi have already made strides from our development o the senior team, i now want to see Shongwe and others getting their chance. we must overtake Asec mimosa of Ivory Coast from the seat of being best exporter of talent from Africa!

I was disappointed with the LAME EXCUSE Doc gave yesterday that the reason Y Chiefs lost was simply because of the much anticipated Weekend clash with Bucs.

I found that funny,but then again i'd say "Look who's talking".It's Mtungwa.

For us Masandawana, while they dishing out EXCUSES left, right & Center,we the Brazilians are Collecting 3 valuable points and Marching ON.

Wits is Next.

I like the attitude from Sundowns. Fall, pick yourself up and continue the jurney. I'm not expecting anything because there are obstacles on the way. I cannot object the fact that our league is very competitive, there are no guaranteed wins. This should be a wake up call to every coach, players and supporters. To my Sundawanas, lets just take one game at a time and plan for the next one. Well done to my Boyz, good luck to the next game.... thobsco aka Mzukulwana signs off.

At least we're exporting players who play with style.
With xulu being named as one of top 100 young players in the world, the future looks bright in that department but though it would be nice see them gradually making their way into the senior. our developments structure is already getting respect as far as argentina simply because of the type of football these guys play.
