Mamelodi Sundowns beat Bidvest Wits

Posted: 26 February 2011 Time: 22:13

Mamelodi Sundowns beat 10-men Bidvest Wits 3-0 in League match on Saturday night.

The Downs’ goals were scored by Papi Zothwane and a brace by Katlego Mphela. Wits were down to 10-men in the first-half when Thando Mngomeni was sent off.

Overall it was a convincing a solid showing by Downs and put to an end a run of a couple of unsatisfactory results.

Downs announced their intensions early on when Katlego Mphela headed home a 10th minute corner, 1-0.

The Brazilians doubled their lead in the 31st minute when Mphela converted from the spot, sending Darren Keet the wrong way.

The spot kick had been awarded after an intricate move around the box ended with Richard Henyekane bursting goal-wards before he was abruptly and illegally halted by Sipho Mngomezulu.

Thando Mngomeni saw it fit to argue Mngomezulu’s case and was dismissed for his over-enthusiastic comments to the referee.

Downs added a third goal after 41 minutes when Papi Zothwane tapped in from close range after Mphela had struck the upright.

Sundowns were able to take their foot off the pedal for the second half with the victory all but secured after their highly impressive first half showing, which saw the Pretoria side full of running in attack, solid and the back and dominant in the middle of the park.

The Clever Boys could perhaps have pulled one back on the hour mark, but Mark Haskins’ shot from 14-yards out was too close to Wayne Sandilands.

Teko Modise, on as a second half sub, was unable to really stamp his authority on the game and missed a decent chance when he shot over the bar after a scintillating 78th minute move involving several players.

In the final minutes the Brazilians were pretty much able to go through the motions as they ran down the clock against a Wits side that suffered their first defeat for six matches.

Well done Gorowa for the almost perfect starting eleven, as much as the showboating was'nt necessary but we needed a morale boost and I'm therefore ecstatic.

@Tebohoo exactly this thing Teko"Dead Man Walking"Modise thinks this is Pirates where you play for fun. Give me one Sundowns player before this Teko thing came here who used to showboat and to the fans who were cheering I say sies man!!!

Sundowns is renowned for one touch football passing it around that is our showboating remember 44 passes not this mickey mouse thing delayed passes to the unmarked player. He is trying to woo the fans but give me Surprise Moriri anytime!!!

Our players must adopt european attitude of being ruthless infront of goals especialy wen your opposition is one man down. I'm happy 4 the win but disapointed by score sheet. DOWNS TILL I DIE & AFTER DEATH

Wo kancane gents with the Teko bashing, we are left with many robots because of people like ya'll.

Teko thrives on dribbling the hell out of his foes, it's nothing new mos vele uya'ybulala ibhari van toeka af.

The team as a whole should take the blame for deccelerating not one individual who is actually doing his best to get settled ku-Downs.

Sweyts loves skill and diski 9/9 and quite frankly General has lots of it! F@ck! Europe! Viva our natural African flair!

Let's protect what makes us unique mense!

Hola Masandawana!

It's great to finally be able to smile. I am pleased with the performance and the showboating is forgivable. The guys wanted to get the supporters behind them, it had been a while since they won so convincingly.

Showboating is not skill it is mickey mouse stuff. Skill is what we see in Segolela, Serero, Majoro, Wana, Pelembe, Iniesta, Totti and our ex great player the real "General" Roger Feutmba. Skill is knowing how to cross the ball, beat 2 or 3 defenders, make killer passes or shoot on target.

The reason TP Mazembe and Al-Ahli have a dozen African titles is because they are more skillful than the other teams not this mickey-mouse stuff. The president will never realise his African Dream if the likes of "Dead Man Walking" comes in and ruin our club with his mickey mouse stuff. Sundowns won three league tiltes with their skill which is one touch football and I don't remember any player showboating.

If Modise wants to show off he can come in during half time and entertain us with his diski while real players with real skills are resting.

i dont know why people complain about Teko dribbling , my opinion= he was dribbling himself because no wits player got lost or antoxicated during the moves

we need peple that make effective dribbling, like Zane Mooosa = he dribbled going forward and he dazzles everybody

to be continued

Hard luck boys! that first goal killed you! Thando! you need to work on your attitude as your ill-discipline cost the team! we could have come back from a 2-0 down but with 10 men against a team like Sundowns is criminal!
This crap about Sundowns taking their feet of the pedal is nonsense! Gorowa even said in his interview that he told his boys to score as many goals as possible as it will count in their favour.
Bringing on Haskins was good as he nearly scored and Wits had Downs on the backfeet for most of the 2nd half!
I never rated Teko and he proved himself once again to be a monkey! dribbling himself when there is no Wits player in sight! how foolish can you be???
Keep up the spirit boys and don't let this loss get you down!
