Thulasizwe Mbuyane scores late on for Orlando Pirates

Posted: 26 February 2011 Time: 17:31

Thulasize Mbuyane scored in the final minute as Orlando Pirates drew 1-1 with Kaizer Chiefs at the Soweto Derby at Soccer City.

Some have said it wasn’t a classic match but if not it sure was high on entertainment and commitment.

As the Chiefs players left the field it was evident they felt they gave away a full three points, allowing Pirates to score so late in the game.

But the Pirates players were ecstatic afterwards, raising their arms high after a gutsy second half fight back.

It was Thulasizwe Mbuyane's header at the back post from Mabena's cross that earned the draw. Itumeleng Khune couldn't reach the deep cross, but 'Juju' did not miss out.

It had taken just twelve minutes for the opening goal. Tau and Dladla played a one-two on the right channel and Tau whipped in a perfect cross, which Motaung Jnr headed in from close range, although replays showed the ball came off his shoulder.

At this time, Chiefs were in control with some great combination play involving Josta Dladla, Yeye Letsholonyane and Knowledge Musona.

It has to be said that the ball was in Meyiwa’s territory, but in his defence he had two defenders in front of him challenging Motaung Jnr for the ball and so he couldn’t crowd the area.

Pirates’ first chance came after 23 minutes when Katlego Mashego broke free inside the area, but his right-footed shot flew across goal and out for a goal kick.

Pirates were much improved after the break, playing more as a unit, and they exerted some early pressure only to keep pushing Chiefs right until the death.

In the end a draw was a fair result as Pirates fought hard to create chances in he second half and it paid dividends.

Unfair results especialy for Pirates they fought well, personaly i think they should hv won and I think VV's plan didn't work. But tough luck to pirates, I must admit they're showing championship material without their regulars they play ths well if Pirates can keep it 2gether only Ajax can stand on their way, Chiefs is not championship material, they are just lucky.

Draw is what I anticipated by I believe we were suppose to win.again referee two big mistakes.
One when he deny us our goal.secondly we got a penalty.but again Chansa substitution was delayed,he virtually did nothing & ended costing us many balls in key areas!
But good work boys, you really deserve a pat on the back!
Mbuyane I salute you.

@drumzz 100% correct. Chiefs defended for an entire 45 minutes in the 2nd half. VV then emphasizes this by taking out an attacking winger for a defensive midfielder. WTF was he defending? 2-0 maybe mare not @ 1 nil. Wena @Bucs4Life WTF are you celebrating? Do u know what a draw means? The only thing we have done is we have made life easier for Ajax.

Even their coach says they didn't deserve a win nor a draw!
What a pathetic team.
They keep going to their rightful position which is somewhere around number 8!
Wow we deserved to win.again Damon was pathetic with his decisions.

Eish, Makhosi we lost 2 points @ the death. Much as I'm disappointed I must say on the balance of play in de 2nd half Chibuku didn't deserve 2 lose the match. A draw was a fair result.Congrats 2 Chibuku for salvaging a point when all seemed lost.
