Ajax Cape Town went top of the Premiership table on Friday evening, with a 1-0 win over Free State Stars.
Khama Billiat got the goal, while Stars ended the match with 10 men, as Paulus Masehe was sent off for a second bookable offence.
Ajax captain Brett Evans made his 300th start for the club - a milestone he can be proud of.
Urban Warriors keeper Hans Vonk was hardly tested as the Ajax defence put in a solid display at the back.
It was a makeshift back-four, with only Brett Evans and Clayton Daniels, regular starters.
Ea Lla Koto started the match brightly but could only manage long-range efforts, Lehumo Itshegetseng and Siyabonga Mdluli trying their luck.
The Cape side could well have scored after 14 minutes, but when Evans’ free-kick picked out Clayton Daniels, a heavy first touch allowed Kennedy Mweene to nip in and make the save.
Ajax began to gain in momentum midway through the half and after 28 minutes they took the lead when Billiat netted expertly from an angle, to round off a fantastic team move.
There were further chances for Ajax as the likes of Thulani Serero, Lebo Manyama and Billiat continued to use their pace to cause havoc in the Stars half.
But Billiat, as well as Serero and George Maluleka, were all off target with their shots.
The second half was for the most part scrappy.
The best chances fell midway through the stanza to Wilson Katsande, but he sent one shot inches wide of the upright, and another just over.
Stars played the final 10 minutes with 10 men after Paulus Masehe was given a second yellow.
In the end Ajax had no problems holding on for victory as they jumped to the top of the Premiership table.
