Platinum Stars beat Mpumalanga Black Aces 3-1 in a League match on Wednesday night.
Stars’ goals were scored by a Bradley Grobler hat trick while David Mathebula got a consolation goal for Aces.
The main destroyer on the night for Aces was Bradley Grobler, who scored a hat-trick for Stars to seal the victory for the home side. David Mathebula grabbed the consolation goal for Aces in the dying minutes of the match.
It was rather fast paced affair from the first whistle as both sides tried to assert their dominance in the midfield. This resulted in a rough game in the middle of the park with tackles flying in from every direction.
The first real chance on goal came in the 23rd minute when Aces’ James Madidilani let rip with a powerful right footed shot from 25-yards out, but his effort sailed just past the upright.
Four minutes later and only the brilliance of Francis Chansa kept the scores level. Bradley Grobler brought the best out of the Aces keeper with a 12-yard shot which saw Chansa at full stretch to tip the effort around the post.
Then in the 37th minute the drama reached its climax in the half when Thabang Rooi was sent from the field for a professional foul on Joseph Malongoane inside the box. The referee duly pointed to the penalty spot and Grobler made no mistake from the spot with a clinical finish, 1-0.
Luck was certainly not on Aces’ side and this was clearly evident in the 43rd minute when Manqoba Ngwenya struck the woodwork from 25-yards out.
Matters got even worse for Aces just before the half time break when they went a second goal down. Grobler grabbed his brace when he finished off a great Stars’ passing movement with aplomb from six yards out, 2-0.
In the second half Aces woes continued and Grobler put the game beyond doubt in the 63rd minute when he grabbed his third goal on the night. The goal came courtesy of a 25-yard strike from the forward which found bottom right corner of the net, 3-0.
From there on out Stars simply controlled the game and seemed content with the three goals they had already scored. Aces, after Rooi’s sending off never really looked in the game.
The visiting side did manage to find a consolation in the 90th minute when David Mathebula found the back of the net for Aces, 3-1.
The game ended 3-1 and Aces problems at the bottom of the table continue.
