Bloemfontein Celtic still unbeaten at home after 0-0 draw with Ajax Cape Town

Posted: 2 February 2011 Time: 22:20

Bloemfontein Celtic maintained their unbeaten record at home when they played to a goalless draw against Ajax Cape Town in an Absa Premiership match at the Seisa Ramabodu Stadium on Wednesday night.

Neither side was impressive on the night, and the game was characterised by sloppy mistakes and poor finishing, often from long range.

Celtic will take pride in the fact that they are still unbeaten at home, but will not be happy with their performance. Phunya Sele Sele did see more of the ball, but they squandered their possession with some poor passing and wasted shots on goal.

The first shot on goal went the way of the Urban Warriors in the 16th minute. Thulani Hlatshwayo let fly from about 35 yards out, but it went wide of the target.

With that scare Celtic managed to create their first chance on goal and should really have scored, but Ajax’s Hans Vonk was brilliant between the sticks for the visitors.

Luyanda Bacela did well rising highest to meet a cross from the right, but his header was superbly saved by Vonk diving full stretch to his right to tip the effort around the post.

The rest of the half was a poor display of football as neither side could keep the ball for long enough to do anything worthwhile with it.

The second half was not much better as both teams started where they left off.

Thulani Serero should really have found the game’s opening goal in the 57th minute when he found himself with the ball, unmarked and 12 yards out from goal, but his shot went wide of the target.

Three minutes later Clifford Mulenga’s effort on goal from six yards went woefully wide when he should have shot on target at the very least.

The game continued in this fashion until the referee finally put both sides out of their misery as the game finished 0-0.

Unbeaten at home... 15 draws is 15 points, you can get relegated when ou played all season unbeaten at home. Start winning games and this might actually mean something.
