Mpumalanga Black Aces beat SuperSport United

Posted: 26 January 2011 Time: 22:13

A goal nine minutes from time by Manqoba Ngwenya saw Mpumalanga Black Aces beat SuperSport United 2-1 in a League match at the Puma Rugby Stadium on Wednesday night.

The win saw the home side end a nine game losing streak.

The opening exchanges saw no side really gaining the upper-hand. Instead, it was a slapdash first ten minutes, but it was during this period that the first half saw two of its best chances on goal.

In the fourth minute Aces’ Benedict Vilakazi let fly with a powerful shot from about 25-yards out the just sailed over the crossbar.

Then in the ninth minute United’s Ricardo Katza rose highest to meet a Tebogo Langerman corner-kick. Katza’s six yard header, though, was magnificently saved by Francis Chansa diving to his right to parry the effort away from goal.

After those initial chances the game settled into a pattern which saw Aces dominating the midfield battle through the work-man like attitude of David Mathebula.

Still, even though Aces did have the majority of the possession it was the home side who found themselves a goal down in the 27th minute. The second half started much more exciting than the first ended as SuperSport may have taken the lead, but they did not find the goal from a boot of one of their own players. Instead, Joseph Henyekane headed the ball into his own net from only six-yards out, 1-0.

Aces, though, were not going to be kept down and quickly found the equaliser 14 minutes later. David Mathebula found the back of the net for the Mpumalanga side as he drove a 20-yard free-kick around the past the defensive wall and into the right hand corner of the goal, 1-1.

The second half was not to exciting as both sides struggled to really find decent goal scoring chances and just as both sides looked as if they would settle for a point substitute Manqoba Nqwenya had other ideas.

Nine minutes from time, Ngwenay pounced on a loose ball inside the United box after a goal mouth scramble and fired the ball home to give his side the lead, 2-1, and their first victory in ten matches.

Mathebula's now scored 2 goals for his new team, what does this say about VV's judgement, especially when my beloved Chiefs seem to be struggling right now????? On a different note, Shake's the man, he's gonna get better with time, Aces right now, have to be one of the star-studded teams in the PSL, what with the likes of Yuki, Tso, DVD, Shakes, the list goes on, goodluck to Paul Dolezar, it's gonna be tough down there!

Keep it up- I hope you can carry on with this fine performance and prove that you did not buy 20 new players in vain. I believe with the quality you have assembled you only need teamwork and focus. I hope Swallows can do the same and avoid the chop.

Thanks Dolezar, 110% behind you!!!!!

The comment made by (the 'OLD in my times') Marks Maponyane when Shakes 'The ACE' Ngwenya was put on the field during this game ("Shakes is not a match winner") was really an insult to this extremely talented player.. We all at some stage have witnessed Shakes (sometimes single handedly) help 'SunClowns' win the league (3 times for that matter)!! You must have wished you had a hole to croll into after he scored the 'match winning' beauty GBPY.. I hope that pie was not so humble on your throat & you will think thrice about making such comments about our star player!! Give props where its due & publicly apologise to the man as you had publicly made that uneccessary comment MARKSY..
