AmaZulu draw with Bloemfontein Celtic

Posted: 29 January 2011 Time: 17:33

Bloemfontein Celtic came back for a 1-1 draw against AmaZulu at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Ntokozo Sikhakhane put AmaZulu ahead, before a great strike by Nathan Paulse got the draw for Celtic.

It was a sloppy start to the match by both sides with neither team really able to keep hold of the ball.

AmaZulu had the first chance of the game in the 13th minutes, when Tangeni Shipahu curled a 22-yard free-kick around the Celtic defensive wall, but the ball went just inches over the crossbar.

Thereafter Celtic started to find their rhythm and began creating some space behind the AmaZulu defence.

In the 20th minute Hlompho Kekana tested AmaZulu’s keeper, Mbongeni Mzimela, with a 30-yard pile-driver. Mzimela was up to the challenge and made a good save diving to his left.

In the 27th minute AmaZulu went ahead, somewhat against the run of play.

Celtic failed to clear a cross from the right wing, and Sikhakhane latched onto the loose ball inside the box and fired it home from 10 yards out.

The second half started slowly, but in the 56th minute Bongani Mbhele rose highest to meet a cross from the right, but his header was superbly saved by Patrick Tignyemb.

However, Tignyemb only succeeded in parrying the effort straight to Ayanda Dlamini, who toe-poked the ball goalwards. The ball looked to have fully cross the goal-line, when Tignyemb made another save.

The goal was not given and wrongly so.

Three minutes later Celtic should have found the equaliser when Thokozani Mshengu struck the right-hand post from 12-yards out with an open net at his mercy, after the AmaZulu keeper was left stranded by a cross from the left.

But in the 72nd minute Celtic found the goal they deserved, when substitute Paulse robbed the AmaZulu defence of the ball and drove forward before unleashing a great strike from 25 yards out.

Celtic piled on the pressure but were unable to find the winner and the game ended 1-1.
