Orlando Pirates beat Moroka Swallows

Posted: 18 December 2010 Time: 17:35

Orlando Pirates recorded a 2-0 win over Soweto rivals Moroka Swallows at the Dobsonville Stadium on Saturday to move into second place on the log.

Goals from Ezenwa Otorogu and Tlou Segolela saw the Buccaneers pick up a third successive League win and close to within six points of leaders Mamelodi Sundowns.

The Birds, in contrast, are still without a win from 11 League matches and have now suffered their first defeat under the tenure of new coach Gordon Igesund.

Both teams struggled to create scoring chances in the first half. Teko Modise, back in the Pirates line-up in place of the suspended Daine Klate, was perhaps the liveliest player on the pitch and grew into the game after a somewhat erratic start.

On 29 minutes Ezenwa Otorogu had an opening in the Swallows penalty area but he was unable to get an effort away under pressure from Roger Da Costa and Greg Etafia.

Just under ten minutes later Modise almost got through the defence after an impish chip into space from Andile Jali, but the midfielder was unable to get a shot away.

But on 40 minutes the breakthrough finally came for the visitors. A poor back-header from Roger Da Costa fell invitingly for Otorogu and the Nigerian steered home a well-placed left-footed shot to put Bucs 1-0 up.

There was further drama at the end of the first half as Vincent Kobola brought down Happy Jele in the box and gave away a penalty. Lucky Lekgwathi took on the responsibility but blasted his spot kick over the bar.

Swallows came out with renewed vigour in the second half but they missed out on a great scoring opportunity in the 53rd minute. Young striker S’celo Zuma went one-on-one with goalkeeper Moeneeb Josephs but ‘Slimkat’ made a great save.

Ten minutes later a terrific Siyabonga Nomvete strike had the beating of the ‘keeper but rebounded off the underside of the crossbar.

On 67 minutes Pirates killed off the game. Modise picked out Segolela with a superb pass and the winger showed great composure to control the ball and fire a low shot to Etafia’s right that put the Buccaneers 2-0 up.

There were further chances at both ends in the remaining minutes, particularly for Pirates, for whom the unfortunate Ndumiso Mabena missed a virtual open goal.

I agree Teko appears to be back but lack of match fitness left him rusty. He could have scored also not just create. As for Malokase...

Welcome back King Teko, you are truly the best.prove them wrong!
Mabena! 4 clear cut chances missed in two consecutive games! I'm speechless! The coach Mr Krol, can he win the league, doubtful only Khoza can tell us.
Mr Lekgwathi, experience count but maybe the knees are starting to crumble, I don't know it looks like we can go all out to win this league but there are some things this coach got to do! Oh he must swallow his pride and realise that there are some players who can better do a job for him.

Somebody is a Swallows' fan here. How come Pirates gets the points, but the log says something different? All of a sudden Swallows has 1 win and 6 points while the Mighty ones remain with 18 points.

Krol you rock we got the points you started with the right team and made great substitutions at the right time. Its not the fault of the coach if the players are missing sitters.

Please people when you comment here don't personalised things. What does Khoza have to do with this atticle.I think people are starting to loose their minds on this forum. Please leave the chairman alone.I haven't had something about Kaizer ,Motsepe,Mokoena,Ali,Manto or Sibiya on this forum even if their teams lose a game.We are starting to loose an opportunity to express ourselves to show other people that we can read and anlise the game.As for Kick Off they have already mee up big time.A big head libe read "Mahamutsa dropped for Soweto Derby" where was Mahamutsa "Playing".It seams now Kick Off have exposed themselves when it comes to reporting about Pirates. They write aticle on behalf of our Players as if it was them. How can Mahamutsa tell Kick Off that he was dropped and then play. The answer is clear. They were trying to distabalised Pirates and their supporters. Please Pirates be cafull when commenting about Pirates in this forum as its existance is just to kick you down.Emang ka maoto le shireletje sehlopha sa lena gobane manaba ke ao, a ipontshitje lehono. But we will survive.UP THE BUCS!!!!
