A goal in either half gave Ajax Cape Town a 2-0 win over Mpumalanga Black Aces at the Puma Rugby Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Ajax move up to second on the table, four points behind Mamelodi Sundowns.
Terror Fanteni opened the scoring on 27 minutes, before Brett Evans sealed the score with a penalty in the second half.
It was a slow start to the match, with the first real chance in the 18th minute, when Vusiwe Masondo sent in a cross, which Walter Ramulondi rose to meet.
The Aces man should have done a lot better from 12 yards out, and his effort went wide of the target.
The game was a stop start affair until Ajax took the lead after some great individual work by Sameehg Doutie.
The Ajax player drove down the flank and worked his way into the box before he supplied an inch perfect pass to an unmarked Fanteni 12 yards out.
Fanteni fired the ball into the bottom left-hand side of the goal to make it 1-0.
The Cape side began to dominate possession, but let themselves down in the final third.
Fanteni should have doubled the lead in the 55th minute from 12 yards out, but he shot wide.
In the 84th minute Brett Evans sealed the victory for Ajax when he scored his side’s second goal from the penalty spot.
Walter Khumalo was adjudged to have pulled down Thulani Serero inside the 18-yard area, and the Ajax captain made no mistake, 2-0.
