AmaZulu and Free State Stars played to a goalless draw in an Absa Premiership match at the Princess Magogo Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Usuthu, despite being the home team, struggled to get into the game in the opening 45 minutes, with Stars dictating terms in the middle of the park.
The visitors were on the attack from the first whistle and came close to finding the opener in the eighth minute when Mpho Makola drilled a 20-yard free-kick just over the crossbar.
AmaZulu did to create some chances on goal in the first half – in the 12th minute Carlington Nyadombo rose highest at a corner-kick to head the ball just inches wide of the target. Matome Madimabe also came close to scoring in the 21st minute when his 30-yard shot went just wide.
Then in the 33rd minute a great passing movement by Usuthu saw Goodman Dlamini in some space 12 yards out from goal, but his shot was poor and went well wide of the target.
Ayanda Dlamini should really have found the game’s opening goal in the 68th minute when he had the ball at his feet six-yards out from goal, but his shot was a horrible one and went wide.
That was as close as either side came to breaking the deadlock as the game finished all square at the end of the 90 minutes.
