SuperSport and Ajax draw

SuperSport United and Ajax Cape Town drew 1-1 in a League match on Wednesday night.
The United goal was scored by Fikru Tefera. The Ajax goal scorer Terror Fanteni was sent off in the 73rd minute for retaliation.
It was not the most enticing of games as neither side was really able to take a firm strangle hold of the match. The biggest struggle on the night was the monstrous battle in the midfield between these two top South African sides.
The cut and thrust of the match was virtually killed by both midfields cancelling each other out, but that was to be expected as the defending league champions took on one of the early season front runners in the Urban Warriors.
Ajax were looking to continue their unbeaten run while SuperSport were looking to get their title defence back on track.
Sadly, for the Urban Warriors they saw their unbeaten run extended to five games, but not the way they expected as the game finished 1-1. The draw is no good for United either as they continue to stutter in their title defence.
It was definitely not a game laden with goal scoring chances, but that was mainly down to the tight marking both in the midfield and in the defence. In attack both sides continued to let themselves down in the final third of the pitch with a poor pass or a wayward shot.
Ajax certainly started the better of two sides controlling the midfield battle and passing the ball around nicely. Slowly, though, United found their footing in the game and were able to create some chances of their own.
Still, the first half remained goalless and so did the first 15 minutes of the second half until, against the run of play, Fikru Tefera gave United the lead. Ajax failed to clear a corner and a goal mouth scramble ensued which saw the striker pounce on a loose ball and fire his side in front, 1-0.
The lead, though, didn’t last long and Ajax got the goal they so thoroughly deserved five minutes later when Fanteni was quickest to react after a Tafadzwa Ruskie shot hit the woodwork. The ball fell to Fanteni and he made no mistake firing home to level the scores, 1-1.
Ten minutes later and the goal scorer for the Urban Warriors turned villain when Fanteni was sent from the field after a bad tackle and bad misconduct as he swore at the referee.
Nonetheless, the scores remained the same and the side shared the points on the night.
