New Free State Stars coach Steve Komphela got a baptism of fire as his team slumped to a 2-0 defeat to Golden Arrows at Chatsworth Stadium.
After a goalless first half in which the visitors dominated, Arrows upped their game after the interval to score to unanswered goals – with Stars also seeing red twice.
Mzuvukile Tom netted the opener in the 66th minute, volleying home from just inside the area from a set-piece.
Stars were reduced to 10 men 10 minutes later when Rudiger Gilbert was shown a second yellow, with Arrows taking advantage when Vusimuzi Vilakazi swiveled and turned to bury Norikazu Murakami’s pass in the 84th minute.
Soon after Paulus Masehe was shown a straight red after a studs-up challenge to complete a miserable day for the men from the Free State.
