Knowledge Musona's goal downs Bloemfontein Celtic

Posted: 18 September 2010 Time: 19:57

Knowledge Musona scored the only goal of the game as Kaizer Chiefs beat Bloemfontein Celtic at Rand Stadium on Saturday evening.

Amakhosi were certainly the better team on the night and deservedly picked up the three points.

As early as the fourth minute Jimmy Tau forced Patrick Tignyemb into a save with a driven shot from 20 yards, and five minutes later Musona just failed to connect with Mthokozi Yende’s cross.

Chiefs dominated the first half and were asking questions of the Celtic defence throughout. Reneilwe Letsholonyane went for goal with a powerful long-range shot and it took another fine stop from Tignyemb to turn the ball around for a corner.

Two minutes later Chiefs were on the attack again; this time Siphiwe Tshabalala managed to send in a telling ball over the Celtic defends towards Musona, who headed from close range.

Ten minutes later Punch Masenamela pushed up the left wing and played the ball to Tshabalala, who in turn found Nkosinathi Nhleko in the area. His blocked shot fell to Musona who, with his back to goal, spun round and fired off a shot, but it could only find the side-netting.

Celtic’s best chance of the half was a tame header from Nathan Paulse which hardly troubled Itumeleng Khune.

Early in the second half Chiefs had the ball in the back of the net, but Yende was adjudged offside when he picked up a pass from Tshabalala.

Celtic looked far more purposeful when on the offensive in the second half and threatened Khune’s goal on a number of occasions. In the 59th minute Olomu flicked Prince Hlela’s corner from the left towards goal, but the Bafana number one parried for a corner.

Chiefs then went in search of an insurance goal, and on 64 minutes Masenamela’s initial shot was blocked by Tignyemb. The loose ball fell to Musona, who tried side-footing past the stranded keeper, but Thabo Nthethe blocked the ball, which then fell to Tshabalala who drove it wide high and wide.

Late on Khune made an important save, stopping Hlompo Kekana’s piledriver from 20 yards out, while in injury time both Tshabalala and Musona spurned good chances, but by then Chiefs had done enough for the three points.

The coach must never ever play Masango .He must just be loaned out. This boy lacks discipline in the field and is costly most of the times. Why shpould he fake the fall when he could have played the ball and scored? Why the hurry when he could just lay the ball down, check the options and make an informed decision...Nooo. He is been doing this for a while now i think the coach must take some action against him. He is a classic example of a headless chicken.

three points in the bag, well done to my team but it's the overall play that I was not happy with, we could have played better. if we pull the same type of play like tonights one against chibukus in the MTN8 then we should consider ourselves out of the tournament....
