Ajax Cape Town get the points

Posted: 17 September 2010 Time: 21:30

Ajax Cape Town maintained their 100% league record with a hard-fought 2-0 win over a gutsy Platinum Stars at the Cape Town Stadium on Friday night.

The goals were scored by Tafadzwa Rusike and Sameegh Doutie. Stars has Dillon Sheppard sent off early in the second half.

Ajax looked to stretch the Stars defence early on, but the visiting side gave little away, ensuring that the home side did not get any clear-cut chances.

However, poor marking in the 25th minute allowed Paul Rusike to sneak in at the back post and bury a header after being located by Thulani Hlatshwayo’s free kick from all of 45-yards out.

Owen da Gama’s men quickly created a couple of chances to level the score, but Kagiso Senemela was somewhat wasteful as he turned Brad Grobler’s low cross straight at Hans Vonk then also directed a header into Vonk’s arms just minutes later.

Rusike had a couple of chances to double the lead, but he was denied twice by Tapuwa Kapini, the second effort in particular resulting in a brilliant save from the Stars keeper.

Fanteni came close early in the second half for Ajax, but sent his chip a couple of yards wide after having been put clean through on goal by Thulani Serero.

In the 57th minute Dinaledi were down to 10 men when Dillon Sheppard went for an early shower after having scythed down Hlatshwayo.

The game remained tightly contested, although it was Ajax who created chances: Fanteni ballooned a header, Granwald Scott shot straight at Kapini, who made another good save from an 87th minute Rusike free kick.

Mario Booysen almost had the ball in his own net in the 90th minute, but Ajax took it in their stride as they quickly broke up the field where Doutie showed calmness to slot home from the tightest of angles.
