Free State Stars and Santos shared the points after a goalless draw at Botshabelo Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Although both sides will be happy that they didn’t lose their first League game, they will still be upset with the way they played. Neither side could string passes together and were unable to create any decent chances.
It was a slow start to the game, with both teams looking a little rusty early on, giving possession away rather cheaply with some poor passing. Thereafter, however, Santos started establishing themselves in the midfield and began stringing some nice passes together.
The closest we came to seeing an opening goal was an almost an own-goal from Ea Lla Koto defender Mbo Isoso after a mix-up at the back on the half-hour mark.
The best effort of the game from Santos themselves came five minutes later when Jurie Basie broke through the Stars defence, but he squandered the chance as he pulled his 12-yard shot just wide.
Both sides would have gone into the break a little disappointed after a poor display of football in the first half. The second half wasn’t much better though.
The game was very scrappy and neither side were able to find create any chance of note. In the end all were please to be put out of the misery as the referee blew the final whistle and the game ended 0-0.
