Moroka Swallows dream of defending the Nedbank Cup lives on after beating Golden Arrows 2-0, thanks to a brace by Auguston Leonard at Dobsonville Stadium on Saturday evening.
The Birds had a dream start when Leonard hit a spectacular volley in the second minute to give the home side the lead. It was not all smooth sailing for the Dube birds as they were dealt a huge blow when Sibusiso Khumalo was replaced after just fourteen minutes due to injury.
He was replaced by Morgan Shivambu.
Keegan Ritchie had a chance to double the home sides lead but he the free kick over the crossbar in the 21st minute. Leonard came close again, this time with a spectacular shot, but Thulasizwe Khuzwayo saved for a corner in the 25th minute.
After leading 1-0 at half-time, Leonard continued where he left off when he doubles the Birds lead tabbing in a cross from Shivambu in the 55th minute.
In the 65th minute Shivambu forced a great save from Khuzwayo with a powerful long range drive.
Francis Kombe's powerful shot from inside the box went narrowly wide.
In the 87th minute Thokozani Mshengu saw his long range shot tipped over the cross bar by Swallows' keeper Greg Etafia.
At the end the Birds held on to their deserved lead to win 2-0.
