Mamelodi Sundowns thumped Bloemfontein Celtic 4-1 in the opening SAA Supa8 match at Loftus on Saturday afternoon.
Sundowns dominated the match from the start and were three goals up at the break.
Celtic to their credit tried hard and pulled a goal back early in the second half but Sundowns scored again to keep their three goal cushion until the end.
The first goal came in the 22nd minute when Surprise Moriri got his foot to a low cross from Vuyo Mere on the right to score giving keeper Posnett Omony no chance.
Sundowns doubled their lead when Benson Mhlongo scored with a close-range shot after receiving a quality cross from Moriri in the 33rd minute.
Gift Leremi (pictured), the new signing from Orlando Pirates, scored his first goal for Sundowns in the 43rd minute when he beat the keeper with an angled shot from inside the box.
Celtic pulled a goal back just after the break when Petros Mahlatsi dribbled past five players to score with a shot giving keeper Brian Baloyi no chance.
The Brazilians restored their three goal cushion in the 61st minute when Manqoba Ngwenya scored with a header from a Brent Carelse cross from the right.
Celtic did not look as sharp as they were when winning the Telkom Charity Cup last week while League champions Sundowns looked to be in the same sort of form as last season and look to be very much the side to beat in the upcoming season.
