Ajax pile misery on Cosmos

Ezenkosi’s plummet towards the first division was compounded with a 1-0 loss to Ajax on Tuesday night.
Ajax were far and away the dominant side in the first half, but a couple of good saves from Avril Phali, together with some inadequate finishing meant there were no goals at half-time.
The best opportunities for the home side came in the third minute when Phali used his legs to keep out Dipsy Selolwane’s shot and in the 25th minute, when Nathan Pausle looked set to bundle the ball over the line from Sameegh Doutie’s cross, but again Phali intervened.
Cosmos hardly had a sniff at the Ajax goal, with Bamuza Sono’s attempted 17th minute chip the only real chance they had, while the Urban Warriors had further opportunities through Lance Davids, Deniss Ivanovs and Thulani Serero, but were unable to make their chances count.
Davids nearly opened the scoring in the 53rd minute, but after a fine solo run, he was denied by another brilliant Phali save.
Both teams then had chances from free kicks, but Thapelo Tshilo for Cosmos and Doutie and George Maluleka for Ajax were all unable to hit the back of the net.
Paulse had a fantastic opportunity to score with 80 minutes on the clock, but he fluffed his lob and then made a real hash of an attempted back-heel.
But in the 82nd minute Phali’s net was finally breached via Selolwane’s deflected shot from out wide on the right.
