Dlamini strike shocks Chiefs

Posted: 6 February 2010 Time: 17:49

Siza Dlamini’s last-minute goal has saved Jomo Cosmos from defeat at the hands of Kaizer Chiefs in a match played at the Loftus Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The game finished 2-2, but it was Amakhosi who dominated the relegation-threatened side for the better part of the first half.

Zimbabwean striker Knowledge Musona came close to giving his side a lead in the 16th minute, but his free-kick from just outside the box came off the crossbar.

But it wasn’t long before the Phefeni Glamour Boys were ahead. Musona beat an offside trap and calmly controlled the ball to beat Avril Phali to his left.

Chiefs continued to pile on the pressure on Ezenkosi and their former player Nkosinathi Nhleko could have added to their woes as they continue to battle relegation, but though chest-trapping the ball nicely in the box, his tame shot was easily saved by Phali, who was being kept very busy by the Chiefs frontrunners.

In stoppage time, however, a resurgent Cosmos pulled one back with a thunderous free-kick from outside the box. Thapelo Tshilo, who had received a yellow card earlier on, redeemed himself when smashing the ball past Arthur Bartman. It was 1-1 at the interval.

Desperate to evade the dreaded relegation axe, Cosmos coach Jomo Sono brought on Daniel Gaborone in place of an ineffective Thabiso Hlalele for the start of the second half.

However, it was Chiefs who appeared to have had the last laugh. Siphiwe Tshabalala received a good pass from Abia Nale in the 68th minute, who had made a good run into the box from the right. Tshabalala controlled and beat Phali to his left with a low powerful shot.

Shortly afterwards lighting struck, forcing referee Matthew Dyer to call the players off the pitch as it started drizzling.

Five minutes later the two teams were back in the field. Siza Dlamini replaced Keamogetswe Wolff as Cosmos tried to come back into the game.

Come back they did as Dlamini was the hero, scoring an equaliser in the last minute of regulation time. The Swazi international pounced on a loose ball after Tshilo had mistimed his header from a Bamuza Sono corner-kick.

The result is a big blow to Chiefs’ title hopes and certainly a boost to Cosmos’ fight to avoid relegation.

Let me be the 1st to admit that Amakhozi won win the league this season. However, one should indicate that Supersport will walk away with the title obliterating the sunflops' so called record of winning the league 3 times in a row.

I'm loyal to Khozi but I'm also being realistic.

Is this the team Pearl&her bunch of losers call the best in SA?This team is crumbling into oblivion.A team with such history should be up there competing with the best teams not admiring them like the way Pearl&cronies do.I can only compare this team to Liverpool, they're fast reaching extinct faster than they can realize. They're busy singing "In My Time" song by TP.

My advice to you MAKHOSI: make sure you all watch SOCCER ZONE on monday, who knows, you might score a cracker of a winning GOAL in those highlights and you can still win the LEAGEA.

ANOTHER OPTION: you can simply organise SOCCER ELECTIONS and win the LEAGEA VIA ballot paper.

How many hours since the game has ended? Not one comment from Pearl&her Cronies! It's strange how they shout out so loud against other teams, yet now they can't say a word on this Forum. And i know why they're so silent, they're holding their breaths for Downs to loose tommorow&then u'll hear how they'll puke their bile here. For now we'll enjoy what happened today&what'll happen tommorow,we'll see tommorow.
