Bidvest Wits beat Golden Arrows 2-1 in an Absa Premiership match played at Bidvest Stadium on Saturday night.
The goals were scored by Sifiso Myeni and Mark Haskins while Richard Henyekane scored a late goal for Arrows.
Arrows were made to rue those missed chances when in the 24th minute Mvalo was adjudged to have fouled Sifiso Vilakazi inside the box and the referee, Buyile Gqubule, awarded a penalty.
From that resultant spot kick, Sifiso Myeni made no mistake, putting the Students in the driving seat.
Sifiso Vilakazi was making his debut for Bidvest Wits after being signed from Ajax Cape Town.
There was drama in the 47th minute when the referee awarded the home side their second penalty of the day.
This was after Mzuvukile Tom handled the ball inside the box. However credit should go to Arrows’ keeper Thulasizwe Khuzwayo, who saved from Fabricio Rodrigues, avoiding his side the embarrassment of going into half time with two goals down.
Wits’ efforts were rewarded when substitute Mark Haskins connected a well taken cross Sifiso Myeni with a diving header in the 82nd minute.
Arrows’ consolation goal was scored by Richard Henyekane from a penalty after Patrick Phungwayo was adjudged to have fouled Thamsanqa Gabuza in the 88th minute.
