Xulu wins it for Sundowns

Posted: 19 December 2009 Time: 17:24

Siyanda Xulu’s goal with 10 minutes to go handed Mamelodi Sundowns a 2-1 Absa Premiership win over Kaizer Chiefs at Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Katlego Mphela continued his fine form with a 35th-minute opener, but Amakhosi hit back through Josta Dladla’s penalty just before the break.

Inside the opening two minutes Chiefs were on the back foot, with Itumeleng Khune coming to the rescue twice early on. First he made an acrobatic save to deny Luvengo Mungomeni, before keeping out Mabhuti Khenyeza’s header from debutant Franklin Cale’s corner-kick.

Khune then denied Mphela, saving with his legs in a one-on-one situation, before the Sundowns striker headed just wide of goal on 20 minutes.

Chiefs were having difficulty dealing with the continuous attacks, with Mungomeni’s shot shaving the outside of the upright, before the opener eventually arrived.

Tlou Molekwane’s backpass to Khune was woefully short, allowing the striker to get past the keeper and slot into an empty net.

However, despite the one-sided nature of the game, Chiefs went into the break on level terms after Mungomeni was adjudged to have handled Reneilwe Letsholonyane’s shot. Dladla converted from the spot.

Sundowns continued their dominance after the break, with Khenyeza missing another great chance just before the hour-mark, before they got the winner their play deserved on 78 minutes.

Pelembe’s free-kick from the left was flicked on by Khenyeza, but Khune managed to blocked the ball. However, Xulu was on hand to bundle the ball over the line for three crucial points.

The last piece of action came in second half stoppage-time as Khune got down well to save Surprise Moriri’s free-kick.

An Open Letter to Brokefan and anyone who hates Sundowns.

As we have witnessed the match against Sundowns and Chiefs, we have come to notice that there is only one in-form team in the country right now and that is Sundowns. Now, I was not particularly pleased by the comparison made by Brokefan last week when he unwittingly compared "Killer" Mphela (goal poacher) to Jackie Ledwaba (one season wonder).

I wish to point out yet another interestingly omitted fact that Brokefans' soccer expects neglected to mention. Jackie Ledwaba never scored against Chiefs 3 times in one season whereas, as we have noticed, Mphela did.

We are now 3 points behind Supersport and if any team in the PSL stands a chance to even catching up it is us, Masandawana. So Chiefs can now focus on one thing and one thing only, the derby, which I damn guarantee will be a boring affair.

Brokefan, check your facts before you start shooting off your mouth, you sounded like you work for Soccer Laduma, very boring.

here they come again, defining "team", which in simple term means working together to achieve ONE GOAL.
Is quite fascinating that one but only one team won on the day, My dear fellow football fans (SUNDOWNS and CHIEFS), be informed that Chiefs was certified DEAD by DEMON, and autopsy to be done by Chiefs supporters will confirm that Quality worth more than money.
Let all focus on a point and stop SHOOTING Blanks.
I love SUNDOWNS

This was by far the worst perfomance from Sundowns, and to think it was still good enough to outclass Chiefs and the Ref.This just goes to show how much useless Chiefs are these days.Maybe Kaizer must now pay the officials for three penalties as opposed to one especially when playing against dangerous teams like Downs.

Thanx Downs for exposing this confused team of Imbabala or is it Black Leopards?Thanx for shutting up all those big mouthed cheap Zim fans. They're waiting for Monday to comment now coz they're so cheap that they don't even know the meaning of the word Laptop or computer.Pls guys don't don't come to bore us on Monday with old news coz by then we would be focusing on our DERBY.As for those that are still dreaming of the League title can continue dreaming coz there's only one team that can win this League that's Sundowns while the dreamer's dreams were shuttered @ Moses Mabhida today.I that Pearl&Brokenfan Club won't hang themselves over the weekend.I'm enjoying my trip back to my Province.
