Wits, Swallows in stalemate

A glut of missed chances ensured a goalless draw between Bidvest Wits and Moroka Swallows on Saturday afternoon.
Calvin Kadi had a chance to give his side an early lead, but he fired wide from Nyiko Tshabangu’s inviting cross.
Wits were a far cry from the team that has been struggling so much in recent weeks. Roger de Sa’s charges played like a well-oiled machine as they gave their opponents a run for their money, but failed to punish them when they had them under siege.
Siyabonga Nomvethe, Sibusiso Khumalo and Shaun Haschick also tormented the Wits defence, but seemed to be running out of ideas on entering the Students’ danger area.
De Sa might have thought the gods have turned their backs on his team. This was after substitute Thando Mngomeni was set free by Calvin Kadi in the 60th minute. The midfielder chipped the ball over Greg Etafia, but was unlucky to see his attempt hit the post.
That was as good as it got in terms of goalmouth action as the two sides had to settle for a point apiece.
