Jomo Cosmos fought back from two goals down to draw 2-2 with 10-man Free State Stars at Goble Park in Bethlehem on Saturday afternoon.
Goals from Mpho Maleka and a penalty from Kennedy Mweene had handed Stars a 2-0 lead, but second half strikes from El-Hadji Samb and Tshepo Moloto – after Manti Moholo had been sent off –ensured a valuable point bottom-of-the-log Ezenkosi.
Stars took control of the game early on, opening the scoring in the ninth minute. Sthembiso Ngcobo was upended by Thapelo Tshilo just outside the penalty area and Maleka cureled a free-kick past Avril Phali.
On the half-hour mark it was 2-0 – goalkeeper Mweene slotting a penalty after Gladwin Shitolo had handled the ball in the area.
Ousmane Berthe had a good chance to halve the deficit early in the second half, but the defender failed to hit the target with his header.
However, Samb showed how to convert a header when he got on the end of Bongani Theletsane’s cross in the 50th minute to make it 2-1.
Thabiso Hlalele almost levelled the game for Cosmos on 65 minutes, driving his shot just wide, and two minutes later substitute Tshepo Moloto headed over the bar in another decent chance for the visitors.
On 72 minutes Aleni Lebyane produced a great save from Phali, who dived low to tip the ball around his post.
Three minutes later the game had a major turning point as Moholo was dismissed for a second bookable offence.
Ea Lla Koto went into defensive mode, looking to hold onto their lead, but with nine minutes to go Moloto headed home the equaliser from Tshilo’s cross.
