10-man Chiefs win

Posted: 23 December 2009 Time: 21:39

Kaizer Chiefs beat AmaZulu 1-0 in a League match at Loftus on Wednesday night.

Chiefs had goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune sent off early in the second half for punching Pere Ariweriyai. The goal was scored by Nkosinathi Nhleko in the first half.

Both sides missed a penalty kick, Marc Van Heerden for AmaZulu and Josta Dladla for Chiefs.

As Chiefs began to find their rhythm, Usuthu had to weather a storm of fairly consistent attacks, nearly going behind in the 16th minute as Siphiwe Tshabalala’s shot was cleared off the line by Pere Ariweriyai.

More was to come from the hosts as Mbongeni Mzimela pushed Nkosinathi Nhleko’s header over the bar and then watched Reneilwe Letsholonyane’s speculative effort go wide.

Nhleko was working hard to give his side the edge and he got his reward in the 36th minute when he beat Mzimela with an effort from a central position.

The visiting side had the perfect opportunity to bring parity to the match just two minutes into the second period when Khune was sent off after punching Areweriyai. A penalty was awarded to AmaZulu.

Chiefs were forced into sacrificing Tshabalala as Arthur Bartman made his way onto the field.

But the score was to stay the same as Marc van Heerden missed with his penalty attempt.

Barman’s next action came in the 58th minute, when he kept out a shot by Dlamini.

Dlamini was certainly the liveliest of the visitor’s attackers and he forced Bartman into another save, this time from a 75th minute header.

AmaKhosi could even have added a late second goal after van Heerden conceded a penalty in the 94th minute, but Josta Dladla missed from the spot.

Hard fought win for my team, and I must every point counts at this stage.Khune mst start showing maturity, this is no his first season in the PSL anymore, so he must grow up andnow what to do when and why, otherwse it would be difficultto return to Bafazi Bafazi.
The entire team must learn never to take some gams lightly, as all the 16 teams compete in the PSL, so they must be taken in the same approach.Am not happy with Dladla missing the kick from the penalty spot,as if we were 0-0, we would have lambasted hm for not convecting that chance, or he must step aside now.

Khosi fans dont deceive yourself, you are only fighting for a respectable position on the log and not the league.

Reason being:
At best you can end the season with 59 points, which will require you not to draw or lose any of your remaining 6 games. This will be some sort of miracle as I dont remember Chiefs winning three succesive matches this year.

Supersport already has 47 points and needs only 12 points to reach that target from 6 matches.

I dont even want to mention Pirates who can at best only end at 55 points.

Conlusion
The PSL will live up to its name with only Supersport and Sundowns challenging for it.

floyd, chips did have a run of 3 consecutive wins once during this campaign..its easy to forget it as it only happened once. the only thing that made me not to forget it was the constant reference to 3x3 when i visited khosi strongholds like hostels and kodikitching. Dont worry that fluke phase wont happen again.
