Cheeseboy gives Downs the win

Posted: 22 November 2009 Time: 17:48

Mamelodi Sundowns continued their climb up the table with a hard-fought 1-0 win over Mpumalanga Black Aces at the Puma Rugby Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Lebohang Mokoena was the hero for the Brazilians, netting the only goal of the game midway through the first half.

Sundowns, missing a number of regulars, had the better of the first half, but were let down by some poor play in the final third.

Katlego Mphela shot straight at the keeper early on, while Siyanda Xulu had a goal ruled out shortly afterwards for offside.

But Mokoena did eventually get the goal Downs’ play deserved, reacting quickest after Oscar Ramogadi could only parry a powerful drive from Mabhuti Khenyeza.

Aces rung the changes at the start of the second half and it immediately paid off as they started asking some serious questions of the Brazilians’ defence.

Madoda Motha saw a towering header superbly saved by Brian Baloyi on 53 minutes, and continued to pile the pressure on for the remainder of the game. However, they could find no way past the solid Downs’ defence.

Sundowns perfomance, especially Gareth Ncaca was not Ayoba! But winning without any disallowed goal for our opponents, now thats Ayoba!

big improvement required against Pirates!

Serious changes will need to be made,Pirates will punish us if we go with the same players,We would need to start with Vilakazi in the middle instead of a useless Ncaca,Coach Must Leave Mabhuti Out of this One please,He's soooo useless,With Thenbinkosi Mdledle out for this one, will be in deep shit on the leften side

Very amazing how one lousy win can change people's minds. Now you see Bucs as a walk in the park. hehehehe...I can't wait for that game.

Im just happy the coach was also not happy with the perfomance of the team. Gareth is proving to be a bad signing and needs to be transfer listed.

For me wednesday is a defining moment for our season for more reasons than one. we're yet to prove that we can dish it out to the big guns this season, we've not beaten SSU and Pirates, neither have we outplayed them in any game. these 2 teams, having finished last season on a high note and started the current season on the same fashion, they really are a yardstick with which we need to measure our improvement.

NatulawayoFC still has a long way to go like us as well, so outplaying them like we did in the first round doesn't count, let alone beating them.

Wonder: 2009-11-23 09:14 [ Report ]

Dream on Wonder, who knows maybe your dreams may come true but being realistic (based on your recent performence) it will take a miracle for Downs to beat Chiefs, Pirates and SSU. Your team is super weak.

Whats wrong with Chiefs and Sundowns Fans

why do you have to drag a team that scores 3 goals into your terrible arguments.

Please leave Bucs out of your nonsense,
