Platinum Stars continued their resurgence in the Absa Premiership on Saturday afternoon, defeating Jomo Cosmos 2-0 at the Moruleng Stadium.
The goals came from Joseph Malongoane and Luis Renteria.
Inside the opening two minutes, Stars midfielder Kagiso Senamela went on the offensive with a close-range shot that sailed straight into the hands of Cosmos goalkeeper Avril Phali.
Barely a minute later, Cosmos were on the attack through exciting midfielder Bongani Theletsane, but he watched in agony as his effort was tipped just wide by keeper Kapini.
Senamela proved to be a thorn in the side of the Cosmos defence, and he was unlucky when his close range shot went over the crossbar.
After those early opportunities, few more notable chances were created by the two teams.
Barely a minute into the second half, Senamela was once again in the thick of things as he supplied a defence-splitting pass to Botes in the box, but the Namibian decided to lay the pass on the blind side hoping for an incoming teammate when testing Phali seemed a better option.
Moments later, Sheppard was twice unlucky as his header went agonisingly wide from close range and his free-kick ricocheted off the upright as Stars started the second half brightly.
Stars continued to press the Cosmos defence, and were rewarded with the opening goal on the hour mark when Malongoane tapped home from inside the box.
Stars ensured the three points in the 88th minute when the Cosmos rearguard was once again punished for failing to apply the basics of defending, and Renteria made it 2-0.
