Swallows down Arrows

Posted: 21 November 2009 Time: 22:31

Moroka Swallows inflicted a first home defeat on Golden Arrows at the Chatsworth Stadium tonight with an emphatic 3-1 victory.

Arrows took the lead through a Richard Henyekane strike shortly after the interval, but Swallows responded with three unanswered goals which included a brace from Collins Mbesuma and a third that came when Kagiso Denge’s strike deflected off Arrows defender Siyabonga Sangweni.

Richard Henyekane had the small band of home supporters on their feet when he rifled a thunderous drive onto the Swallows crossbar from distance, midway through the first half.

Arrows playmaker Nhlanhla Zothwane waltzed his way into the visitors penalty area and was about to unleash strike when his marker, Kagiso Denge, made a timely intervention after tracking him all the way into the danger area.

A few minutes later, Denge showed his worth at the other end of the field when he hit a well struck drive from about 25 metres away, unfortunately for him, it crashed onto the Arrows crossbar.

An Etafia blunder gifted the home side the lead straight after the break when his mistimed clearance hit the referee and sat nicely for Henyekane to stab into the empty net. But Swallows leveled five minutes later when Morgan Shivambu threaded a precision pass to Mbesuma who finished with aplomb.

Mbesuma put the visitors in the lead for the first time in the match when David Radebe set up the burly Zambian striker with a well weighted pass to make the score 2-1.

Swallows Kagiso Denge’s played a major role in delivering the killer blow in the 81st minute when his strike clipped Sangweni en route to goal.

The match commissioner has subsequently credited Denge with the goal.

Swallows had Keegan Ritchie sent off in the 90th minute for a second bookable offence.

Power football worked on the night as Swallows collected 3points last. Captain Lefa said we will turn the corner but people said Swallows will be relegated what nonsense, how can you expect such great team to be relegated. The point is our coach arived late and didn't have time for pre-season so now he got his footing.

Mbesuma my man you still pack the punch. Show these PSL teams that you are still the same lethal striker, packing the same punch as you did at Chiefs!
