Pirates fail to win….

Posted: 4 November 2009 Time: 21:43

Orlando Pirates and Maritzburg United drew 1-1 in a League match on Wednesday night.

An equalising goal from Team of Choice defender Mor Diouf cancelled out Lucky Lekgwathi’s opener and ensured that the Buccaneers’ winless streak extended to seven games.

Pirates dominated possession but Maritzburg were certainly keen to give their hosts a game and Noah Chivuta almost opened the scoring with a long range effort on 36 minutes that forced Moeneeb Josephs into an excellent save.

In injury time at the end of the first half Lekgwathi scored from close range after a good corner kick from Dennis Masina, sending the home team into the break with a 1-0 lead.

But their advantage was short lived, as Collen Zimba’s free kick was turned home by Diouf. Pirates’ defence, which had been their strength early in the season, once again let them down.

The Buccaneers pushed hard for a winner in the latter stages but the visitors’ defence had an answer for every question they were asked, even when Bageta Dikilu was sent off for a second bookable offence late on.

Pirates are in sixth place on 21 points, six adrift of leaders SuperSport United. Maritzburg lie in 11th place on 16 points.

Mothibantwa,Mongala,Shakira Gert and Chenene should be given a chance in the starting lineup of pirates if we seriously want to challenge for honours this season as for our coach it is evident he has got no plan B and is afraid to make changes.

Positive signs from Krol in utilising the likes of Mongalo for a change, albeit just for 60+ minutes...... Had he rotated players earlier on in the season, the likes of 'Navigator' would`nt have lost their network so early. lol!

Pirates don't change a bit, same old Buccerneers... Hade zipoko!

This what happens when you cheats with your age.....how long does it take for a player to recover or regain his form...it's almost a year Pee-Rats fans been talking rubbish about Deco=Teko that he'll bounce back....that's nonsense the 33 yr old is dead now....what a disgrace. They say form is temporary BUT class is permanent....and about Mcdonald Modise i'm afraid it was just a fluke.

Joseph Makhanya, Josephy Kamwendo and Gert Schalwyk are being put on the bench, why??? Coach Ruud Krol can see that the current players are worn out and tired but keeps on fielding them despite their fatigue. Thats totally ridiculous and a shame for the team.

What is wrong with the Pirates coach? How do you substitute fiery Mongalo and leave Mashego on the field? Mashego is off form of late. He gets over excited with his wayward passing and shooting. Why not try Fanteni and Schalkwyk next time? What is it with two difensive midfilders? Play Kanwendo and bench Mdluli or Jali. It was pointless defending against Maritzburg. Eishhh!!!!

Most PSL players lack mental aptitude, if u see that u are consistently not performing to your peak u need mental capacity to regain your form, instead of getting word from the coach expecting miracles on the pitch and getting even more dissapointed about your performance thus your form getting another knock. How can Teko be off form for so long.

@Le- I think the editor used those headlines bcos Pirates scored first and if you score first in a home game you are expected to win and for Cheifs it was loosing 3-1 and fought back to get a draw nogal away from home that shows the fighting spirit hence he said "fought back". Loosing three of your best experienced players Vilakazi, Lebo and Mdledle will make it hard for you to come right. Krol is one dimensional and don't understand the word "conditioning and fatigue". Unlucky Bhakaniya but up and up Menwana Phezulu.
