SuperSport United beat Bidvest Wits 2-1 in an Absa Premiership match on Sunday.

Brian Umony opened the scoring for SuperSport, before Mark Haskins got one back for Wits just after half-time. Glen Salmon secured the win for Matsatsantsa late in the game.

Wits captain Tefu Mashamaite was sent off in the 70th minute.

The first half belonged to SuperSport, who created the most chances, with Daine Klate and Anthony Laffor menacing the Wits defence.

In the 8th minute Calvin Kadi went on a solo run, but his shot was stopped by Rudi Isaacs at the near post.

SuperSport replied immediately with a swift counter-attack, when Laffor beat his marker and sent in a telling cross, which found no takers.

SuperSport finally found the opener in the 30th minute when Umony headed in from close range, after a good corner from Siyabonga Nkosi.

On the stroke of half-time, Myeni found space for himself in the area, but his booming drive just sailed over the bar to deny Wits an equalizer.

Wits started the second half like a house on fire, and on 47 minutes a corner by Rene Richards to the far post was headed back by Sifiso Myeni to Haskins, who headed home easily to make it 1-1.

Play calmed down after that, as both clubs tried a cautious approach.

In the 64th minute, Richard's cross was flicked on by Kadi into the path of Sibusiso Vilakazi, whose scorcher beat Emille Baron hands down, but the goal was disallowed for a foul by Kadi.

In the 70th minute Mashamaite headbutted an opponent in an off-the-ball incident and was rightfully shown a red card.

After a sweet move by SuperSport in 78th minute, Salmon scored with a low shot and SuperSport gained a well-deserved 2-1 victory.

Downs stopped Chiefs from winning 3 in a row and now we are out to stop Supersport. We shall protect our record until PSL changes its name.

If there was one team that could beat SSU than it was Wits. Not sure who else is going to stop them now from running away with the title. Santos however is playing good soccer and likely to burst their bubble. They have a coach that is highly underrated in Boebie Solomons. Wits was unfortunate to lose that game, they had more chances than SSU and being reduced to 10 men did not help their cause either. Salmon should have been given a red with Tefu. Tefu as captain should have controlled his temper instead of retaliating as he cost them a game now!
