Sundowns stumble to defeat

Mamelodi Sundowns’ good run of form in the Absa Premiership was brought to an end, losing 2-0 to Platinum Stars at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium on Wednesday evening.
Stars, thanks to goals from Tshepo Ramokala and Alton Meiring, secured a victory that moves them onto 12 points and will come as a major relief to coach Steve Komphela.
Stars created opportunities early in the game and they squandered a good one to open the scoring just after the half hour mark when Joseph Malongoane failed to punish the Sundowns defence as they failed to clear a dangerous ball in the penalty box.
Sundowns had their moments on the attack through the hard running Mabhuti Khenyeza and lethal Katlego Mphela but the Stars defence, that was marshalled by Mbulelo "OJ" Mabizela, had answers to all their questions.
The first goal came in the 65th minute when Ramokala scored with a shot from about 12-yards out after receiving the ball from Murakami on the right.
Just after the hour mark, play was stopped for a few minutes as Sundowns goalkeeper Brian Baloyi was given medical attention after colliding with a teammate but he was able to continue with the game but there was nothing more he could do as Meiring wrapped this game up with about 16 minutes left on the clock for this much needed victory.
