AmaZulu consigned Orlando Pirates to their third consecutive League loss with a spirited performance at the Chatsworth Stadium on Wednesday.
The game ended 2-1, with goals from Bradley Ritson and Ayanda Dlamini for AmaZulu and Katlego Mashego for Pirates.
The first half was fairly evenly contested with both teams managing to find the back of the net, but the home side got the decisive goal in the final quarter through their industrious striker Dlamini.
Dlamini had a shot on target a few minutes into the game from a tight angle, but Moeneeb Josephs kept out the effort with a good show of agility. At the other end, Nicolas Gindre was a mere spectator when Andile Jali let rip with a well drilled drive from just outside the area, which flew narrowly past the target.
Ritson stunned the Pirates supporters when he got his name on the score-sheet for the first time this season in the 26th minute. The unmarked Ritson glanced a header past Josephs from a Marc van Heerden set-piece.
Pirates went in search of an equaliser with wingers Bennett Chenene and Dikgang Mabalane giving them much thrust. Five minutes before the interval Chenene lined up Katlego Mashego for a crack at the AmaZulu goals with a precision pass. Mashego responded by firing past Gindre with a well-placed shot.
Similar to the first half, Dlamini hit the side netting early in the second half, before Ritson almost doubled his tally, but his stinging low drive was deflected off target by Josephs' fingertips.
Mlungisi Mdluli had a stab at the AmaZulu goals, but lobbed wide with Gindre all at sea.
On 77 minutes Dlamini beat Josephs’ with a powerful shot from a tight angle, after taking Litha Ngxabi’s pass in his stride and surging passed Lucky Lekgwati.
