Dipsy Selolwane scored with 14 minutes to go as Ajax Cape Town burgled a 1-0 win against Platinum Stars at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium on Wednesday night.
The win takes the Urban Warriors, who only started the match with five substitutes following a spate of injuries, suspensions and national team call-ups, up to third place, leave with SuperSport United.
However, Stars will feel aggrieved at the result, having dominated virtually for most of the match. New-boy Kagisho Senamela missed a sitter as early as the second minute, Alton Meiring hit the side-netting when it looked easier to score, while Tshepo Monareng shot over.
In the second half it was all hands on deck for Ajax as Hand Vonk pulled off a great save to keep out Simba Marumo’s free-kick, while the excellent Derek Descamps headed a goal-bound shot off the line.
Just before that, Selolwane scored his third goal of the campaign, curling home into the far corner after being set up by Mohamed Diallo.
The loss is Stars’ fourth in a row, and they have also failed to score a goal in 380 minutes.
