Bloemfontein Celtic coach Owen da Gama’s return to his former club, Platinum Stars, proved to be a successful one as his side came back from a goal down to win 2-1.
The platinum stars goal was scored by Tshepo Ramokala while Prince Olomu and Thabo Nthethe scored for Celtic.
Phunya Sele Sele should have taken the lead in the 37th minute when Cecil Oerson crossed to Diketo Mototo. Mototo’s shot rebounded off the bar and fell kindly for Prince Olomu, but the Nigerian headed over the bar from only a few yards out.
The Tycoons took the lead just before halftime when Tshepo Ramokala scored directly from 35-yards out with a freekick that was spilled by goal keeper Patrick Tignyemb into his own goal.
In the 50th minute the scores were level when Olomu did superbly to loop a header into the net, following Oerson’s cross from the right.
As the game progressed the momentum was with Celtic and they scored in the 72nd minute when Nthethe swept home Oerson’s cross from 12-yards out.
The closing stages were action-packed as Stars tried hard to earn themselves a point, but Phunya Sele Sele were able to hold on for the win.
