Sundowns flex their muscles

Mamelodi Sundowns come from behind to beat Maritzburg United 5-1 in the Absa Premiership match, with Katlego Mphela netting a brace.

Sundowns controlled the opening few minutes, with Mabhuti Khenyeza, Mphela and Elias Pelembe causing havoc.

In the 17th minute Siyanda Xulu headed home Pelembe’s corner-kick, with referee Charl Theron initially awarding the goal. But after few seconds he controversially changed his decision and awarded the home team a free-kick for a handball.

Against the run of play, United hit Sundowns on a counter-attack, winning a penalty after Xulu brought down Felix Obada. Noah Chivuta stepped up to beat Brian Baloyi.

United continued with their counter-attacks, but missed a few glorious opportunities, with Fadlu Davids and Rudolf Bester the main culprits.

Sundowns started the second half like a house on fire and it wasn’t long before Mphela leveled matters after a great pass from Khenyeza.

Three minutes later Pelembe headed the ball into the path of Khenyeza; United goalkeeper Brendan Wardle blocked the pass back to Pelembe and the Mozambican doubled the lead with a great finish.

Sundowns continued with their dominance in the second half. On 71 minute Mphela received a pass near the halfway line, went on a solo and then unleashed a powerful shot into the bottom corner.

In the referee’s optional time Khenyeza and substitute Lebohang Mokoena scored two more goals to make score 5-1.

Maritzburg was shaky at the back. Good to see Pelembe on-form because he is just on another class.

We all know sunflops doesnt win two games in a row, which means they are going to loose the next game, which unfortunately is against amakhosi, and they will be calling for the coach s head,as we know it is the only team in mzansi that being coached by ten coaches in seven years, enjoy this win while it last.
