Mpumalanga Black Aces came from behind to secure a 1-1 draw with Platinum Stars at the Ackerville Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Alton Meiring gave Stars the lead on 20 minutes, but Sibusiso Themba equalised for the home team midway through the second period in a game of few chances.

The Tycoons were dealt an early blow when former Bafana Bafana centre-back Mbulelo Mabizela had to leave the field after just 11 minutes, but it was they who took the lead when the veteran Meirign showed good composure to side-foot home.

Meiring had a further chance to increase the lead, before Stars lost their second defender of the match as Lefa Mogaila was replaced by Mamadimo Masenya just past the half-hour mark.

Speke Manamela struck the crossbar for Black Aces just after that, while Tebogo Monyai saw his header saved by Wayne Sandilands.

And the home side’s pressure finally told on 67 minutes when Themba netted a penalty to earn Black Aces a deserved point.
