Ajax down the champs

Dipsy Selolwane scored the only goal of the game as Ajax Cape Town downed SuperSport United in Atteridgeville.

With Joel Santana in attendance, both teams took the field with a lot to prove, and it was the Urban Warriors who took the lead from the spot on 15 minutes when Denis Onyango charged fouled Sameegh Doutie on the edge of the area.

SuperSport suffered further setbacks in the first half when they lost both Siyabonga Nkosi and Glen Salmon to injuries, though the latter’s replacement, Brian Umony, came with inches of equalising with his first touch.

The hosts were better in the second half, but hardly created any clear-cut chanes, but for Anthony Laffor squandering a golden chance on 68 minutes. After cutting inside a defender, he was faced with only Hans Vonk to beat, but he blasted over the bar.

Franklin Cale had a few long-range efforts in the second half which came close, illustrating the dearth of clear-cut chances.

Selolwane was named Man of the Match for a sterling midfield performance, though debutant Latvian defender Deniss Ivanovs came very close with an impressive display.

I have always said that Gavin Hunt is just a chancer @ SuperSport. The only reason he managed to win a back2back league is that he got a Pitso-ready-made team which was already winning cups. To support my statement: just look @ how dismal he performed while he was with Swallows over all those yrs. Shapa Ajax Shapa!
