Mashego hits four for Supersport

Posted: 10 May 2008 Time: 22:13

Katlego Mashego scored all four goals as Supersport United returned to the summit of the Absa Premiership with victory over Moroka Swallows on Saturday night.

What made the feat even more impressive was that Mashego was only brought on at halftime after the teams had gone into the break goalless.

The 25-year-old scored his hat-trick in the 61st, 68th and 70th minute – a hat-trick in under 10 minutes – before adding a fourth in injury time. The feat takes his personal tally for the season to ten League goals.

Swallows opened the scoring in the 59th minute, when Japhet Zwane crossed the ball to Sandile Ndlovu from the left of the box, who made no mistake in putting it away.

Mashego equalised two minutes later, taking advantage of a reckless back pass by Ndlovu, and the Supersport striker ran over the defence and shot past Swallows keeper Greg Atafia to make things level.

Haskins put Swallows ahead again in the 66th minute, after Supersport dealt badly with a corner kick taken by Zwane.

In the 67th minute Edward Malinga was booked for a reckless tackle on Mashego, and with the resulting penalty the Supersport striker made it 2-2.

Mashego complete his hat-trick in the 70th minute after some nice work by Fikru Teferra, and scored his fourth after 90 minutes from close range, after receiving a square pass from Siboniso Gaxa.

The result takes Supersport to the top of the table with 51 points, ahead of Ajax Cape Town on 50. Moroka Swallows are in 9th place on 39 points, behind Kaizer Chiefs, Golden Arrows and Platinum Stars, who all have 40.

Damn, this league race's going down to the wire, it's not easy to predict cause both Matsatsantsa and the Urban Warriors look the part, can't think of the last time we had such an exciting finish, well done "Mahoota", Gavin must be eating a humble pie right now considering his attitude towards the boy early in the season!!!!

This boy should leave SSPORT UNTD because HUNT hates him. 8 out the 10 goals he has in the league he scored them coming from the bench. He is being overlooked. KG join this other team that will wear NIKE soon and you ll partner upfront with Petrus Mahlatsi and get supply from Dladla, Chabangu, Moriri and T.Modise. You ll play against all worlds best teams e.g 1st team BARCELONA, 1st team ARSENAL, 1st team MADRID, 1st team CHELSEA and be selected 4 BAFANA BAFANA and of course become a dollar millionaire. This game was a thriller not lyk that thing people were watching this afternoon. Up the SKY

Mr editor why wasnt there a blow by blow coverage of this game? Ssu are just 3 points from their 1st league title dont u think that their games are as important as the Soweto derby? Psl soccer is not about the soweto "dwarfs" I mean "giants" only there are 16 teams in da league, please give equal treatment, its not only the kc and op fans who support your magazine

Well done Supersport United. You deserved the win yesterday. To Katlego Mashego, you rock and I can't wait to see you back in Bafana SQUAD. Swallows must sign 3 defenders if they want to be betta next season.

Ha ha ha if you say 'soweto teams suck mara ne' jelous makes you nasty. My other point Mashego is better than Mphela but this boy is always overlooked and Mphela overated. There is nothing gained by critisizing other clubs one thing for sure those clubs didn't buy their status they worked for it like it or not all those big teams wanna be just need to work hard and earn the respect of South Africans.
Amakhosi 4 Life. Sorry Bacaneers better luck next time!

Well, sice my team KC isn't in the running, I am happy that other Soweto teams aren't doing either. So PTA you may have the League or any other Cape club, I don't care as long as it is not Pirates or Sunflower

Next season, it will be 'The Brazilians', 'Matsatsantsa a Pitori' and 'The Urban Worriors' fighting for the league. And the so called sowato loosers fighting for Super 14 again. Damn Tshwane rocks.
