Swallows back into top eight

Moroka Swallows have recorded an excellent 3-1 Absa Premiership victory over high-flying Free State Stars at the Germiston Stadium on Wednesday night.
Perhaps the Stars players had one eye on their Nedbank Cup semifinal against Mpumalunga Black Aces on Saturday, but take nothing away from a composed performance from Swallows, who came back from conceding an early goal to claim the points.
After Sifiso Sithole had given the visitors the lead, a Sandile Ndlovu double and a late strike from Cecil Oerson, moved Swallows into the top eight, one place above Stars.
Stars took the early lead on four minutes when Sithole beat home goalkeeper Greg Etafia from a tight-angle.
But Swallows were level on 17 minutes when excellent interplay between Evans Gwekwerere and Ndlovu saw the latter side-foot home from seven yards.
And some hesitant defending from the visitors allowed Ndlovu to score his second mid-way through the first half to give the Dube Birds a deserved lead at the break.
Stars pushed forward in search of the equaliser in the second half, but were hit with a sucker-punch when substitute Maimane Phiri’s deep cross on 84 minutes was met on the volley by Oerson, who thundered the ball home.
