Swallows damage Ajax title hopes

Posted: 13 April 2008 Time: 19:11

Ajax Cape Town’s title hopes took another blow as they dropped points against Moroka Swallows on Sunday evening.

The game ended 2-1, after goals from Nathan Paulse for Ajax, and Sandile Ndlovu and Evans Gwekwerere for Swallows.

Ajax opened the scoring in the 30th minute, when Nathan Paulse rose to head home an Eyong Enoh cross.

But they held the lead for less than a minute, as Swallows equalised through Sandile Ndlovu. Ajax failed to clear a cross, and in the ensuing chaos Ndlovu was gifted a simple tap-in to make it 1-1.

Ajax took control of the game for the remainder of the second half, but although they enjoyed more territorial possession they couldn’t manage to translate that into goals.

Gwekwerere made it 2-1 to Swallows in the 72nd minute, scoring the winner with a header after a cross from Cecil Oerson.

Swallows had Patrick Mabedi sent off fifteen minutes from time for violent conduct. Ajax searched for an equaliser, and attempted to put their superior numbers to good use, but Swallows hung back in numbers to defend, and the Cape Town side couldn’t break through.

The loss leaves Ajax in second position, four points behind log leaders Supersport United, although the Urban Warriors have a game in hand. Swallows lie in seventh position, equal on points with Orlando Pirates.

Well, I think United have run away with the league title, credit must go to Gavin Hunt, his technical team and his boys. Swallows must be kicking themselves for letting him go.

Well done Swallows,Ajax played under a lot of pressure 2day to overtake Supersport. The game was well balanced,Paulse was treat to the birds'defence and Haskins played well to deserve the Man of match.Swallows will never kick themselves for letting Gavin Hunt 2go Sbonelo,He didn't sign a life time contract with Swallows. Its only happened in DRC but not in SA.Players and coaches including him
come and go but supporters remain in the birds'cage.Gordon was fired by your team Sundowns but it doesn't mean he is a bad coach.

Sbonelo, i am a swallows supporter and i don't regret that Gavin Hunt left swallows. We pressurised him to leave swallows, he is a good coach but his attitude was bad for us to handle. All the old players that you see at swallows today were signed by Gavin, we had so many good and young players but he kept on selling them and signing old players. Where is Sebone, Peter Rabolele, Ngobeni, Bongani Mbhele you name them, he destroyed those players. Gavin killed swallows, he is doing well at Super Sport becaue they don't allow him to do the same managing style he was using at swallows.

Godfrey, well said bra. Gavin is a good coach right. He got nucleus of the SSU team, remember how SSU played when the season started. At Leopards he was great, then at his first game at Swallows was walloped 5 nil by Pirates. He lacked consistency. Was this because the powers that be at Swallows are pink, that he was inconsistent. Then he should produce results at Khulu Sibiya's and Thidiela's teams. If indeed he is good, why Pirates, Chiefs, Sundowns and others don't go for him?

Can't agree more with you Godfrey,I supported Swallows for years even the days it was fighting relegation we had good ball players. When Gavin took over he sold all our great ball players abo Molefi Ntsolengoe,Johannes Mine,Peter Petersen,Jachonia Chibi eish u Sea Ngobeni my man what a great player. If he succeeds winning the Champoionship with Supersport credit must also go to Pitso cause he gave him a good foundation. He has been with Swallows for 5 season and he only won one trophy.

It is always nice to beat cape town teams, Leon Prins and Gavin Hunt made me to hate anything branded cape town. The way Leon Prins and Gavin Hunt destroyed swallows is still a pain in my heart, i will never rest until Leon Prins is out of swallows just like his cape twon friend Gavin Hunt did. I don't understand why and how ntate Chabeli sold this team to these people, my problems is that in cape town there are good soccer administrators eg. John comittis, Golam Allie and the Ikapa sporting management but where the hell is Leon Prins coming from, the guys has no clue of how to manage a soccer club. All cape town based teams have good development structures but what about swallows because is under a cape townian?
