Santos go third with win

Posted: 23 March 2008 Time: 18:03

Santos beat Bloemfontein Celtic 1-0 at Seisa Ramabodu Stadium on Sunday to keep alive their slim chances of a League title.

The first good chance for Celtic came in the 32nd minute when Mark Amofah had a shot parried over the bar, but the Bloemfontein-based outfit dominated the match and should have come away with the three points, but squandered chance after chance.

Santos’ first meaningful chance came in the 74th minute. Erwin Isaacs received a shot-cum-cross from Eleazar Rodgers, but struggled to trap the ball and with just the keeper to beat shot straight at Simon Gopane whose quick reactions kept the score at 0-0.

Two minutes later Celtic had a brilliant chance to go one up, when Soul Mmethi received a pin-point pass from Mark Mayambela, beat a defender, and, with Wayne Roberts in a terrible position, looked sure to hit home. But unfortunately for Phunya Sele Sele he shot straight at the keeper.

Santos capitalised on only their second real chance of the game in the 81st minute, when Isaacs received a 60-yard pass from Sebastien Bax and shot home from 20 yards out.

The win takes Santos to third position with 38 points, while Celtic lie fourth from bottom on 26.

Celtic have avarage players and above average supporters, they must just fire the coach he has lost the plot.which is you need quality and depth to survive, not the useless 4-4-2 with avarage players.well done to santos

Mr David Bright is from BOTSWANA..not Namibia..it is simply ignorant to say so!!

I am now a big Santos thanks to THE BOTSWANA PRIDE over there. Santos seems to be the only SA team aware of the fact there is a lot of talent in Botswana. Initially, SA football bored me to death!!..go and ask the Camerounians, Chinese, Japanese, Koreans, Tunisians, Serbians(..yah, the Europeans..) and Moroccans about Coach Bright. I cant talk about minnows like Lesotho , Swaziland..rtc!!He has claimed their scalps before.

I hope he continues doing well...Get well soon Mogogi Gabonamong..The HardMan!!
