AmaZulu held at home by Cosmos

AmaZulu were frustrated by a fighting performance by Jomo Cosmos as their Absa Premiership clash at the King Zwelithini Stadium on Sunday afternoon ended in a 0-0 draw.

The visitors enjoyed a bright start to the game and had two early chances on goal, with Reneilwe Letsholonyane shooting wide in the third minute before Nkosinathi Nhleko was denied by a Kalilio Kakonje save in the 18th minute.

As the half progressed the home side became stronger and had a few chances on goal through their exciting young strike partnership of Siyabonga Mkhwanazi and Dumisani Ngwenya.

The best chance of the half fell to Mkhwanazi two minutes before the break, but his volley from a Thabo Mabaso cross was excellently saved by Cosmos keeper Avril Phali.

There was not much change in the pattern of the game after the restart as neither side managed to carve out scoring opportunities on a regular basis.

Cosmos did, however, look the side more likely to score as they enjoyed chances from Godfrey Mahlangu, who was off the mark with an ambitious 35-yard shot, and Nhleko, whose effort from inside the box was pushed away from danger by Kakonje.

Former Bafana striker Nhleko would have been disappointed by his failure to find the back of the net on the day, again missing a good opportunity when in the 72nd minute he missed the target from inside the box.

The best chance of the second stanza came late in the game and fell to AmaZulu. Effort Sithole looked likely to score after unleashing a powerful shot following a cross by Bafo Biyela in the 84th minute, but again Phali came to the rescue for Ezenkosi, pulling off a stunning save to ensure a share of the spoils for Jomo Sono's struggling team.

AMazulu played well yesterday, and fans have to remember to win against Jomo is not easy since his players are throwing everything to move away from relegation zone. I am not that much complaining about the draw, one point is better than nothing, at home or away

Barker was tested on how he could read their match with Cosmos and the result was he did not read anything ' The way he substituted and timing was all wrong. I do not know whether he has crammed that when he should substitute, Dumisani must be the first to go, He does not bring in somebody who will play balls for him to score. Dumisani is not a dribbler as compared to Mkhwanazi who is strong, can retain the ball and shoot but he(Dumisani) is a shooter. He needs support. Two substitutions in one time would have made the difference. This syndrome of one substitution must be revised by Barker. If no 24 is brought in in time you could reap the fruits of success.AMAZULU are slow in build-ups there is no urgency even in a count attack. They are not doing it in the gym so what does the coach say about it. AMAZULu matches are dull and make people feel drowsy. The pace is the same from the beginning to the end. Try something Barker or relinquish the reigns to some one better.
